Rottnest is about 90 minutes by ferry from central Perth but only about 25 minutes from Fremantle. The Pinnacles are roughly two hours north by road. Margaret River is a very long day trip. Perth has Indian Ocean beaches and the Swan River, but no tropical reef or mountain range beside the city.
